1. About Grid Association
Grid Association is a private information and referral business that helps homeowners explore electrical and home energy projects and connect with participating contractors where service is available.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information through our website, inquiry forms, and related communications.
Grid Association is the business responsible for the personal information covered by this policy. "Personal information" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be associated with you or your household.
Grid Association is not a government agency or utility. Submitting information through our website is not an application to a government program.
This policy explains our practices. It does not itself provide consent for marketing, tracking, or other activities requiring separate permission.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
When you submit an inquiry or contact us, we collect the information you provide, including:
- Your name.
- Your email address and telephone number.
- Your ZIP code.
- Your project type.
- Details you share about your home or project.
- Your messages and communication preferences.
If you provide a property address or additional project details during follow-up, we use that information to help process your request. Project inquiries may relate to electrical repairs, panel upgrades, safety inspections, batteries, solar, generators, or EV charging.
Inquiry and permission records
We record the submission date and time, the source of the inquiry, the disclosures displayed with the form, your consent selections, and subsequent changes to your communication preferences. These records help us manage inquiries and document the permissions associated with them.
Communications
We retain correspondence and relevant notes from conversations about your inquiry. If call recording or transcription is used, we provide the required notice and obtain any consent required before recording or transcription begins.
Information to avoid submitting
Please do not include Social Security numbers, payment card details, passwords, or unnecessary health or financial information in inquiry fields or general correspondence.
Grid Association does not process payments for contractor services. Any contractor payment arrangements are handled separately with the contractor you choose.
3. Information Collected Automatically
Technical information processed when you visit our website may include IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, referring pages, access times, and error information needed to deliver and protect the website.
We use technical information to operate the website, troubleshoot problems, protect forms from misuse, and investigate unsuccessful submissions. We preserve available campaign or referral-source information with submitted inquiries to understand where requests originate.
Technical information can be personal information when it identifies or can reasonably be linked to a person or household. Our cookie and tracking practices are explained in Section 7.
4. Information From Other Sources
Information you provide in communications relating to your inquiry may be added to your inquiry record.
Information obtained from another source must be handled consistently with the applicable collection notices, permissions, and legal requirements. Any information received from another business is subject to the purposes and permissions applicable to its collection and use.
Receiving contact information does not, by itself, authorize unrestricted marketing.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use information relevant to your interaction with Grid Association to:
- Receive and review your inquiry.
- Check local service availability.
- Route your request within Grid Association and help you explore available contractor connections.
- Respond to questions and coordinate next steps.
- Maintain inquiry status and communication preferences.
- Identify duplicate requests and resolve submission problems.
- Operate and protect our website and inquiry systems.
- Process privacy and opt-out requests.
- Maintain necessary legal and compliance records.
- Address disputes and meet legal obligations.
An inquiry does not provide blanket permission to use your information for unrelated marketing.
Where additional notice or consent is required for a new use, we provide that notice or obtain consent before proceeding.
6. How We Disclose Information
Service providers supporting our operations
Service providers involved in hosting, communications, or inquiry systems may process information needed to deliver those services. Such processing remains subject to applicable privacy requirements and does not authorize those providers to use your information for their own marketing. Access is limited to information needed for the relevant function.
Participating contractors
Grid Association does not automatically forward your personal information to contractors. Any future request to transmit information to a contractor must be handled through an appropriate disclosure and permission process. A request for a contractor connection does not by itself authorize unrestricted disclosure of your personal information.
If you separately provide information to a contractor, that contractor may use it to discuss your needs, assess the project, prepare a quote, or arrange services. Its privacy policy applies to its own processing activities.
Related businesses and campaign providers
Any access to information by a provider acting on our behalf must be limited to its disclosed role and handled consistently with applicable privacy requirements.
Legal and protective disclosures
We may disclose relevant information when required by law or valid legal process, or as legally permitted to investigate fraud, protect safety, and establish or defend legal claims.
Business changes
Information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of business assets, subject to applicable law and appropriate privacy protections.
At your direction
We may disclose information when you request it or provide appropriate separate permission.
7. Cookies and Website Tracking
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, and local storage.
Website technologies can support forms, security, and privacy preferences. Any optional tracking that requires notice or consent is subject to those requirements. Website activity and inquiry-source information may be used to understand how the website functions and how inquiries reach us.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may affect some website functions. Deleting cookies does not delete an inquiry you previously submitted or automatically change your communication preferences.
Browser privacy signals
Where applicable law requires recognition of Global Privacy Control or another opt-out preference signal, we honor that requirement.
A browser privacy signal does not itself delete information you previously submitted or withdraw a separately provided communication permission.
8. Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising
Grid Association does not sell homeowner information or disclose it to other businesses for their own marketing. Any transmission of inquiry information to a contractor is subject to the process described in Section 6.
If our practices change, we will update the relevant notices and implement any required choices before beginning those activities.
9. Calls, Emails, and Text Messages
We use your contact information to handle your inquiry, subject to applicable law and the permissions you provide. Submitting an inquiry does not authorize every business to contact you by every available method. Where required, separate consent is requested for marketing, automated calls, prerecorded calls, or text messages.
You can request an end to marketing communications by:
- Using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.
- Replying STOP to a text message where supported.
- Telling the caller that you do not want further marketing calls.
- Contacting Grid Association through the contact methods on our website.
We also recognize other reasonable methods of withdrawing consent where required by law. Opt-out requests are processed within applicable legal requirements. We may retain limited suppression records to continue honoring your request.
A marketing opt-out does not prevent a response to a new inquiry you initiate or other communications legally permitted without that marketing consent.
Review our Contact Consent / Messaging Terms and the notices accompanying our forms for the businesses and communication methods covered by your choices.
10. Inquiries Outside Available Service Areas
If a participating contractor is unavailable for your location, your inquiry may be placed on a holding list as explained when your information is collected. We retain holding-list information only while it remains necessary for the purpose explained at collection, subject to applicable legal requirements. You may request removal at any time.
Holding-list placement does not guarantee future service or authorize unrestricted future contact.
You may request removal from the holding list by contacting us. Limited records may remain where necessary to honor an opt-out or meet a legal obligation.
11. Information Retention
We retain information for the purposes described in this policy and applicable legal requirements. Retention depends on the status of your inquiry, the purpose of the record, applicable legal requirements, and any need to document permissions, honor opt-outs, or address disputes.
Inquiry records and correspondence are retained while needed to handle the request and any reasonably related follow-up or dispute. Consent and disclosure records are retained for the period needed to demonstrate the permissions relied upon and meet applicable recordkeeping requirements. Opt-out records are limited to information needed to continue honoring the request.
Technical logs and privacy-request records are retained for their operational, security, and compliance purposes, subject to applicable legal requirements. Information subject to a legal preservation requirement may be retained longer.
Deletion requests apply to relevant active records and are handled in accordance with applicable law. Where backup copies remain temporarily, they are subject to the applicable retention and access restrictions. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or deidentify it.
12. Security and Processing Locations
We are responsible for maintaining safeguards appropriate to the personal information we handle and applicable legal requirements. No transmission or storage system can guarantee absolute security. If you suspect unauthorized access to information you provided, contact us promptly. Where an incident requires notification, we provide it as required by applicable law.
Information processing and any access from another jurisdiction remain subject to applicable privacy and security requirements. This policy does not itself constitute consent to a transfer requiring separate permission.
13. Your Privacy Choices and Requests
You may contact us to ask about your information, request a correction or deletion, or manage communication preferences. Depending on your location and the laws applicable to Grid Association, you may also have rights to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information.
- Access information about collection, use, and disclosure.
- Obtain a portable copy of certain information.
- Opt out of qualifying sales, sharing, or targeted advertising.
- Limit certain uses of sensitive personal information.
- Opt out of certain profiling or automated decisions.
- Appeal a decision regarding a privacy request.
Submit privacy requests using the contact methods published on our website. Identify your message as a privacy request and describe the assistance you need. Provide enough information to locate the relevant inquiry. Do not send identity documents unless requested through an appropriate process.
Where verification is necessary, we use measures appropriate to the request. We do not impose identity-verification requirements on opt-outs where applicable law prohibits them. Authorized representatives may submit requests where permitted by law.
We respond within the applicable legal deadlines and explain any permitted extension, exception, or denial. We do not charge a fee unless allowed by law.
Where an appeal right applies, contact us through the same channels and identify your message as a "Privacy Request Appeal." We will review the decision and explain any further complaint options.
We do not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. Deleting information needed for an active inquiry may prevent us from continuing that inquiry.
14. Additional State Disclosures
State privacy rights apply according to the law governing the individual, the business, and the relevant processing activity. The information categories addressed by this policy include contact identifiers, project details, correspondence, permission records, and website technical information, as described above.
Please do not submit sensitive information that is unnecessary for your inquiry. Any processing subject to additional legal protections must meet those requirements. ZIP-based routing checks service availability. It does not determine eligibility for government funding, tax benefits, or credit.
California residents, where applicable, may request information about collection and disclosure, access, correction, deletion, and applicable sale, sharing, or sensitive-information choices.
We provide additional state-specific notices and request procedures where required by the laws applicable to our activities.
15. Children's Privacy
Our inquiry services are intended for adults aged 18 and older and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that such information has been collected, we take appropriate steps to delete it, subject to applicable law.
If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us.
16. External Websites
Our website may link to contractor websites, program resources, or other external pages. Those operators have their own privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information directly to them.
Our responsibilities for information we disclose remain subject to applicable law.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when our practices or legal obligations change. The updated page will show the revised date. We provide additional notice of material changes where required and obtain consent before implementing a change that requires it.
Publishing an updated policy does not automatically expand marketing permission you previously provided.
18. Contact Grid Association
For privacy questions, requests, or assistance accessing this policy, contact Grid Association using the contact methods published on our website.
